Biochar Production
Biochar is a carbon-rich material produced through the pyrolysis (thermal decomposition in the absence of oxygen) of agricultural residues such as corn stalks, rice husks, and sugarcane bagasse. This process locks carbon into a stable form, preventing it from re-entering the atmosphere as CO₂. Prime-Field is currently partnering with Mun'iya Women Empowerment Initiative in Nigeria to deliver a large carbon removal project in which over 38 Communities have been reached and more than 28,000 tons of CO2e removed through the use of Open-Pit & Kilns Pyrolysis Technology. We are also piloting the use of rice husk biochar as an element of soil amendment to enhance soil fertility, improve water retention, and reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers for rice farmers in Northern Nigeria. We believe in tailoring our approach to the unique needs of each community we serve. And this includes the type of biomass available and the specific requirements of local smallholder farmers.
